Dearest Readers,
I would like your opinion with regards to bread dough mixing using either a Bosch mixer or a Kitchen Aid mixer. My old mixer is on its last legs and I want to be pro-active with a replacement. Any thoughts?
I have decided to sell my Snoopy PE embroidery machine as a means of paying for this upgraded mixer. It is like new and includes two additional embroidery cards as well as the built-in stitches/designs and all the accessories. If you are interested you can e-mail me at: princod(AT)gmail(DOT)com and I will give you the particulars. It might make a nice Christmas gift for someone....
I will resume my Victorian Home Tour on Monday and I hope you will stop by for a visit.
Yours kindredly
Shan

Shan: My mom has a Bosch and I have a KitchenAid. They are both very good machines. The advantage I see to the Kitchenaid is the bowl. The bowl for the Bosch is shaped like a ring and it is harder to scrape out. Pricewise, I think they are about the same. Her Bosch came with a blender and mixer combo, which I don't think you can get a blender with the KitchenAid. Hope this helps!
I absolutely love my Kitchen Aid mixer. Since I do a lot of baking as well as making bread, I think it works best for both (I have the largest Kitchen Aid, well worth the extra money).
Now, people I know who mainly use the Bosch for making bread do love it and felt it did a better job at making large recipes for bread. I'd say the Kitchen Aid is best for two loaves at a time.
My daughter was making this decisions a few years ago and borrowed a friend's Bosch. She said it made great bread but she didn't care for the way it worked with her recipes for other baked goods and that was her priority.
Oh boy. I should probably be embarrassed to say this, but I have both. I used a 1948 Hamilton Beach Mixer for a decade, until I wrapped my fingers through the beaters making banana bread once. Not recommended. This necessitated the purchase of a new mixer.
Sweetheart researched it and bought me a Bosch as a surprise. I have used my Bosch for probably 7-8 years now and love it. I would say that for bread--it is the best. I used it for everything, until Sweetheart came home with a used Kitchen Aid a few months ago that he bought for $30.
I tried making bread in in once. I think my batches (3 or 4 loaves) are just too much for it. I had such a mess. The engine could handle it, but the bowl was too small.
Now, I use the Bosch for all my breads and the KA for everything else. Part of it is just this house and how (poorly) the kitchen is laid out. If I could have the Bosch easier to use I am sure I would use it more. The other part is that the KA is much easier to clean and so I gravitate towards it for quick daily baking. The Bosch is on my washer, next to my Nutrimill and so I usually just use it for bread baking once a week. Man, we eat a lot of bread.
bosch gets my vote. :)
Hi Shan,
I had a Kitchen Aid. It was way too heavy and big for me. So before we moved I sold it. This past month I bought a Bosch. I just love it. I posted pictures on my blog of it. I got the blender to go with it. I am one happy baker now.
Hugs,
Elizabeth
